Thank you for giving me 100 dollars!? That means so much to me.
Unfortunately, I don't have anyway to collect it, due to me lacking ownership of a credit or debit card. Everyone who's sent me money should receive it thirty days afterwards.

Although I can't collect the money, it still means so much to me! I promise to continue making music for the rest of my life!?

lyrics

I'm sure many longtime breakcore fanatics like myself, have come to this sub in the hope of finding the next brain melting, feels smashing breakcore producer before they gain popularity, only to be confused by what's been happening with the scene while COVID has had us hobbled.

Anime samples which were once the reserve of a few producers, and even then usually used sparingly, now seem to be synonymous with the genre. While gabber kicks, which are one of the defining sounds of the genre, are few and far between.

Gabber = Hardcore. Hard-core. That's where the 'core' part of the word breakcore comes from.

I'm sure this is going to upset a great many but I'm not trying to be a dick. It's clear there's something not right when people are arguing with a published breakcore producer about whether or not it's breakcore. And before we go any further, I'm not making any call about whether any of this stuff is good or not. I kinda like a lot of it but... It's not breakcore.

I've listened to as much Sewerslvt as I could find and it's pretty much all D&B, a little bit of jungley stuff but nothing even remotely breakcore.

Same for Evaboy. It's mostly just jungle with some footworky stuff and plunderphonics. It's hard to understand why it's being called breakcore, it doesn't even reference it.

Nearly every day there's a jungle tune with some airy vapourwave stuff going on posted in here. 95% of the time it's way too slow and lacks any gabber kicks, Reese bass, harsh distortion sounds... Anything that could define it as breakcore.

And there's loads more of it. Following breakcore on bandcamp is depressing for the amount of mislabeling going on.

I don't think it's helped that there is some breakcore that does use some plunderphonics and vapourwave sounds, being put on comps with these distinctly not breakcore tracks because they use those same aesthetics. People unfamiliar with the scene are getting confused.

I can only imagine that being based around online communities where nostalgia sounds, vapourwave, anime and generally not being a part of an irl social scene has meant that this music is being made in a vacuum, unaware of what is going on outside of their very personaly selected field of view. Unaware that breakcore has been around for almost 25 years and has a very well established aesthetic.

I strongly urge anyone who really believes they like breakcore to explore its origins. Living in the internet age you can literally listen to the evolution of the scene.

Check out Atari Teenage Riot then listen to Alec Empire's The Destroyer album and his label, Digital Hardcore Recordings. Then listen to Bloody Fist records between 1996 and 1998 as the breakcore creeps into the nosebleed gabber. Check out Ambush, Praxis and Addict records from 96 onwards. Then into the 00's with labels like Ad Noiseam, Hymen, Murder Channel, PRSPCT, Peace Off, Violent Turd, Off Me Nut, Hormonal vibrationz, FUKDUP... And this is all just the tip of the iceberg.

Breakcore has always had other genres lumped in with it, but once you understand where breakcore came from, you'll understand why your breakcore isn't breakcore.
